How to play Classic Mahjong
Classic Mahjong (or Mahjong Solitaire) is a tile-matching game. The goal is simple: find and remove all tiles from the board by matching pairs of identical free tiles.
Basic rules
- Free tiles: a tile is free when there is no other tile on top of it and at least one side (left or right) is unblocked.
- Matching pairs: click two free tiles with the same symbol to remove both.
- Clear the board: the game ends when all tiles are removed.
- No moves left? use the hint button or reshuffle the board.
Tile types
There are 144 tiles in traditional Mahjong, divided into groups:
- Characters (Wan): 1 to 9 in Chinese characters
- Bamboos (Suo): 1 to 9 represented by bamboos
- Circles (Tong): 1 to 9 represented by circles
- Winds: North, South, East, West
- Dragons: Red (Zhong), Green (Fa), White (Bai)
- Flowers and Seasons: 4 flowers and 4 seasons (matchable with each other)
